Waste Management Sets New Schedule for Residential Trash Pickup
Effort is part of push by city to achieve state-mandated recycling goals

From staff reports

Compton city trash collection routes and times have changed beginning Monday. Residents must now put out their trash and recycling carts by 6 a.m. on their regularly scheduled service day in order to guarantee trash collection. The changes will help the city and Waste Management to meet state recycling requirements.

Trash and recycling are being rerouted through a transfer station in order help the city to meet compliance with the California recycling law known as AB 939.

“Since we are changing the entire Compton schedule, we urge all residents to put out their trash, greenwaste and recycling the night before pickup so that they don’t miss our service,” said Susan Moulton, director of Municipal Services for Waste Management. “We cannot guarantee pickup for any trash or recycling that is not at the curb by 6 a.m.”

There will be no other changes to Compton service. All single-family residences and apartment buildings with three units or less will continue to have state-of-the-art commingled recycling, as well as trash and greenwaste service. Free bulky item pickup is also available with 48 hours’ notice in advance of customers’ regularly scheduled service day.

Waste Management also reminds residents to close their cart lids with the mouth of the cart facing the street. Carts should also be placed side by side at least 3 feet apart and 3 feet away from parked cars or objects. Additional refuse should not be left alongside carts. As a courtesy to neighbors, and residents must promptly remove carts after service. Residents should contact customer service at (310) 522-6505 with any questions or concerns about these changes in service.
