LA Social Workers File Expensive Car Crash Claims

LOS ANGELES – An investigation indicates Los Angeles County social workers are very bad drivers – or liars.

The Department of Children and Family Services audit shows workers had more than $1 million in vehicle damage claims in a little more than two years. The investigation also found some questionable payouts.

The audit released last week says there’s widespread lack of management oversight in reimbursing 3,000 county social workers for work-related vehicle damage.

Auditors say one social worker sought reimbursement for vehicle damage while off-duty and others forged supervisor signatures on claims. In one case, an employee claimed a vehicle was totaled and filed a claim exceeding $10,000 even though police called it a minor fender-bender.
