Compton Community College District Has New Student Trustee

From staff reports

The Compton Community College District Board meetings now include a new student trustee, Ryan King. King has attended El Camino College Compton Center for the past two semesters and is majoring in Business Management.

He began his involvement in the Associated Student Body (ASB) in December of 2007 and became secretary in February 2008. One of the first campus events King helped to plan was the celebration of Black History Month.

King believes he was selected to be the student trustee because of his dedication as a member of the ASB. He says he wants to work with everyone in the community and have campus-wide involvement in the decision making process as issues and concerns are addressed.

After attending his first meeting on June 17, Ryan indicated that he listened carefully to the discussion to familiarize himself with the procedure before casting a vote. He said plans to do his research about each agenda item so he is prepared to actively participate in future meetings.

Monthly board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month and begin at noon for anyone wishing to address the Board on Closed Session agenda items. The Open Session resumes at 4 p.m.

The Board Agenda is posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting on the Website at www.district.compton.edu and www.compton.edu.

The public is welcome to attend.
