El Camino College Compton Center to Host Free Financial Aid Event

A free, daylong college fair designed to help students find financial assistance to attend college is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 9 at the El Camino College Compton Center Welcome Center, Room D27, 1111 E. Artesia Blvd.

The “Cash for College Fair” event is free and open to students and their parents who would like help filling out financial aid forms. Complimentary refreshments and childcare for youngsters ages 2 to 12 are also available. Participants will also have a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship.

Financial aid and scholarship presentations are scheduled in English and Spanish from 10 a.m. to noon, and include information for undocumented students (AB 540) and students who have not passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

Participants can also receive help filling out the Federal Financial Aid Application (FAFSA) from experts in the field. Online computer lab and assistance is available from noon to 2 p.m.

Students should bring:

• Their parents

• Student Social Security Number or Student Alien Registration Number

• Parent Social Security Number (if applicable)

• Most recent federal income tax returns from 2007 and 2008 or W-2 Forms

• Business and investment information

The event is sponsored by California State Sen. Edward Vincent, Compton City Councilman Isadore Hall, El Camino College Compton Center, Compton Unified School District and Long Beach Cal-SOAP.
