CSUDH
Names Two New Deans
California
State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has named Margaret Blue
Ph.D. dean of Undergraduate Studies and George Arasimowicz Ph.D.
dean of the College of Arts and Humanities effective Monday.
Blue had been acting dean since August 2006.
Since joining the faculty as a political science professor in 1988,
she has served the university in a variety of capacities including
executive assistant to the president, acting director of university relations
and
director of the University Advisement Center, as well as chairing
a number of curriculum committees. She also was founding director of Students
Preparing
for Academic Rigor and Knowledge (SPARK!), a pilot program for first-time
freshman. “The campus is fortunate to have someone with Dr. Blue’s
experience and wide-ranging curriculum expertise,” said Vice Provost
Jamie Dote-Kwan.
In her role as dean of Undergraduate Studies, Blue will oversee the
university’s honors programs, the Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement,
the Center for Learning and Academic Support Services (CLASS), Service
Learning and the University Advisement Center. She also will chair the
newly formed Student Retention Policy Council, co-chair the Academic Advisement
Council and coordinate the Council on Liberal Studies and Teacher Education.
In addition, Blue will continue teaching University 101, part of CSUDH’s
First Year Experience Program.
Arasimowicz comes to CSUDH having been dean of the Division of Arts,
Media and Communication at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., since 1999.
He has been a faculty member and professor of music at Wheaton for the
last 10 years. Arasimowicz has also taught at the University of California,
San Diego, Southern California College (now Vanguard University of Southern
California), Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., the University of Alberta
and the University of Colorado at Denver, where he was also chair of the
Department of Music. In other professional capacities he has served an
as accreditation evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Music;
composed arrangements for video, television, radio, dance and theater;
produced and hosted radio programs; and served as director of an electroacoustic
music studio.
“I am confident that his background and administrative experience
make him an ideal leader for the College of Arts and Humanities,” said
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Allen A. Mori. “I
look forward to welcoming him to the Academic Affairs leadership
team and to the university community.”
Blue is a CSUDH alumna, having received her bachelor’s degree in
political science in 1981. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in government from
Claremont Graduate School. Arasimowicz earned his bachelor’s degree
in English and history from Carleton University, his master’s from
McGill University and his Ph.D. from UC San Diego
