Education By Any Means Necessary Conference Slated for Next Thursday

The El Camino College Compton Center is hosting an “Education By Any Means Necessary” Conference for Males on Thursday, May 22 from 9 am to 1:30 pm in the college’s Student Lounge and Gymnasium.

The program is designed to offer practical information about El Camino College Compton Center ‘s education and career options for young men to advance themselves during and after high school. Participants will have an opportunity for hands-on experience in various majors and vocational careers. Event plans include communication about academic programs, vocational and certificate programs, financial aid and the many resources available on campus.

In addition, the legacy of El Hajj Malik el Shabazz (Malcolm X) will be commemorated. The day’s program seeks to inspire young men to embrace the pursuit of their education by any means necessary.

The guest speaker is Hasani Pettiford. He conducts workshops on numerous topics and is recognized as an authority on interpersonal relationships, personal growth and development and human sexuality. He has produced a variety of educational materials and authored two best-selling books.

The program is sponsored by Compton Center’s departments of Outreach and Relations with Schools and Student Support Services/Trio Program, Long Beach CalSOAP and Compton Unified School District.
