So Cal Edison Hosts Young Black Scholars Day of Professional Development

From staff reports

The Networkers, an African-American employee group at Southern California Edison (SCE), coordinated a professional development seminar in earlier this month for the Young Black Scholars (YBS) to teach useful techniques and effective presentation skills to students so students can use in college and in their future careers.

SCE’s Networkers promotes diversity within SCE and coordinates events and enhancement projects throughout the community. SCE volunteers worked with more than 40 high school students, organizing them into teams where they learned useful tips such as organizing a presentation, utilizing effective visuals and engaging an audience. Following the training session, the students had the opportunity to present in front of their peers and receive constructive feedback.

“Today we asked the students to think about all the things that are essential in making their lives special and encouraged them to pay attention and learn a skill that can be utilized in college and in their careers,” said Frank Quevedo, SCE Vice President of Equal Opportunity. “Today is an investment in their future to help them embark on their college experience with confidence and preparedness.”

Young Black Scholars (YBS) offers a variety of programs and services, including leadership development, community responsibility, and successful life planning. For more information on Young Black Scholars, go to www.youngblackscholars.com.
