Teacher
Put on Administrative Leave After Alleged Misconduct
Students claim
teacher hot-glued buttons to their noses; teacher reportedly
claims students did it to themselves
COMPTON – A
local elementary school teacher has been put on administrative leave
for alleged misconduct, the school district confirmed.
Sources at Compton Unified School District (CUSD) said a female first-grade
teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School was put on administrative
leave last week after she was accused of using a hot glue gun to
affix buttons onto the noses of seven 6-year-old students.
District
Communications Coor-dinator Sunny Yu confirmed an incident took place at
the 122nd Street school Wednesday,
Jan. 30 and that a teacher
was that day pulled off the job, but said she could not go into
details surrounding the action.
“This situation is currently under two investigations – administrative
and criminal – by CUSD Police,” said Yu in an e-mail last Thursday. “The
alleged teacher has been put on administrative leave until investigation
is completed.”
She added that the district “can’t release any info (confirmation
of the allegations, how many students involved, details, names,
etc.) until after the investigation.”
According to the sources, who would only speak to The Bulletin
on condition of anonymity, the teacher denies gluing the buttons
to the students’ noses
and claims the students did it to themselves.
The teacher has worked for the district for less than three years
and has in the past been involved in several incidents for which
the school’s
principal wrote her up, the sources said.
