Parolee re-entry seminar
Faith Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church will host a 12-week seminar to assist parolees with re-entry into society. The seminar will take place every Wednesday through Jan. 25, 2012, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Faith Inspirational Church, 357 E. Palmer St. The seminar will service 30 parolees, covering topics such as leadership, relationships, parenting and employment. For additional information contact Deputy Owens at 310-605-6542.
Art Exhibit and Reception
California State University Dominguez Hills Art Gallery will present “Twenty-one Artists Create Books” and “Student Showcase: Design” from February 1 through April 3 in the Art Gallery, LaCorte Hall, 1000 E. Victoria St. in Carson. An opening reception will be held on Feb. 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Among the featured artists are Terry Braunstein, Tini Miura, Pia Pezzo and Sue Ann Robinson from Long Beach and Todd Smith of Los Angeles. CAAM Tour of Local Art
The California African American Museum, 600 State Drive, Exposition Park, Los Angeles, will host a guided tour of public artworks in South Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tour will be led by UCLA African American Studies Professor Paul Von Blum and will include the Watts Towers and Watts Towers Art Center for an afternoon of festive celebrations, music, art and poetry. Watts Towers Art Center Director Rosie Lee Hooks will share the history and significance of this iconic California landmark. Cost for the tour is $15 per person.
