Prostitution March Set for Friday
Activists, churches, block clubs, concerned community members and
Sheriff’s deputies will gather at the Compton Swap Meet on Long Beach
Boulevard this Friday at 7 p.m. for the monthly Anti Prostitution March.

Pools of Hope to Hold Annual Awards Dinner
Long Beach Vice Mayor Val Lerch and staff will receive awards for
their outstanding contributions to California Pools of Hope Inc.,
a nonprofit therapeutic aquatic center for the elderly and people with
disabilities
located on the Long Beach-Compton border.
The awards will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 5 – 7 p.m..
at the annual Evelyn duPont Awards Dinner. The theme for this year’s
event is “Celebrating 45 Years of Providing Hope” and
will include an evening of wine tasting, international dinner buffet and
silent auction under the stars in the fabulous Italian Piazza. The
event will take place at Buono’s Authentic Pizzeria located at 250
W. Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach.
The awards dinner is a major fundraiser, and all proceeds will support
California Pools of Hope efforts in providing freedom to the elderly, disabled
and chronically ill to improve their health and fitness. The organization
provides the ideal warm water environment for physical activity so people
of all abilities can enjoy movement and a better quality of life.

Tarbabes Class of ’83 Set for Reunion
The Compton High School Class of 1983 will host its 25th class reunion
this Saturday, Sept. 27 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at The Grand, located at
4101 E. Willow St. in Long Beach. The price is $75 per person and $140
per couple. Tickets will be held at the door. Dinner is not guaranteed
if tickets are purchased the day of the event.

A meet and greet will be held Firday, Sept. 26 at the Long Beach

Park, 17400 Lysander Drive in Carson, from noon to 6 p.m. Please bring
your own food and drink.

FUMC to Host Women’s Day Program
COMPTON—The United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church
of Compton will hold their annual Women’s Day program this Sunday,
Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. This year’s theme is “Women of Faith Standing
on God’s Promises” (I Samuel 1:26 – 28).
The Rev. Donetta Pickett will serve as the event’s guest speaker.
Pickett is a dynamic and well-known pastor from Inglewood’s Faithful
Central Bible Church. She delivers her message with a unique speaking style
that combines knowledge, history, socio-economic relevance and humor.
The public is invited to the afternoon worship celebration, which
will include musical inspirations from a special mass choir composed of
choir members from several visiting local churches including Crossroads
UMC, Crenshaw UMC, Grace UMC, Hamilton UMC, St. John’s UMC, Holly
Park UMC and Glory Bound Baptist Church.
A reception will follow featuring a food buffet.
FUMC, led by Senior Pastor Darnell Holmes, is located at 1025 S.
